#NoHateSpeech

#NoHateSpeech

Cat: I’ve started a website against hate speech on the internet. It has a guideline for fighting hate speech and cyber violence. Dog: A guideline? Cat: The Basic principles of any civil discussion. Like challenge the message, not the person. And be polite, not abusive. Cat: My site also has a lot of meme pictures for people to use. Very useful to silcence haters and trolls! Dog: Erm… cat… these memes really make you look like a bully… Cat: STOP HATESPEECHING THIS, YOU UGLY STUPID FILTHY SHIT!

Update: since this has gotten a lot of attention, and as it isn’t obvious where this is coming from, here is what’s behind this comic.

Recently, parts of the german government started a campaign against hate speech on the internet (see the #NoHateSpeech hashtag on Twitter, for example). While the goal of the campaign is laudable, their means to reach that goal are not. One of those means is an exceptionally vile compilation of memes on a semi-broken web site that was created by a group affiliated with the german government, and likely paid with tax money. They also have a twitter account. If you look at said web site and at what said twitter account publishes, you might realize that the comic isn’t much of an exaggeration.

Cat: This is scary! I’m no longer safe! Dog: *turns off computer* Cat: HEY! Why did you turn off my computer?! Dog: I’ve just made you safe again!

Way To Teach Tolerance

Cat: The Insolence! The Brazenness! What kind of douchbaggery is this? Dog: Huh? Cat: I teach respect and tolerance to those imbeciles all day, only to see them making fun? About me?! Cat: Why are those lowlifes even allowed to tweet at me after I blocked them? This is cyber violence! Cat: Instead of reflecting their own privilege, intolerance and hatred, that filthy scum is laughing about me blocking them! Dog: Go on, call them names. Way to teach respect and tolerance.
